Today mark another milestone for Canonical’s Linux distribution, Ubuntu, with its’ ninth release dubbed as “Intrepid Ibex” or if you prefer the number, just Ubuntu 8.10 is suffice. You can read about the release note here. Among the changes are:

• Comes with the Linux 2.6.27 kernel, X Server 1.5 / X.Org 7.4, Pidgin 2.5, and GIMP 2.6 (among many other packages).
• Native 3G support.
• Refined default theme.
• Dynamic Kernel Module Support (some reading here).
• Comes with a special ATI driver for providing the X.Org 7.4 support.
• Inclusion of Live USB Disk Creator.
• Refined BulletProffX.

If you’re not into Ubuntu yet, you can download it from Ubuntu’s site. If you’re upgrading, a simple guide can be found here (check your release version first). Currently I’m using the network upgrade method since I already have version 8.04.1. But since my local broadband connection kinda sucks , it seems the upgrade process will took 2 years to complete But for those who’re not in the rush, you can always request a free cd through Shipit.

What? Am I dreaming? Blizzard had officially revealed about Diablo 3!! I had waited for this game since 2002 after countless hours with Diablo 2 (and with Lord of Destruction as well) and believe me when I said I waited for this game up to the point I had easily been cheated by one of fake posters for Diablo 3 in 2003 . From what I read, there are several things about this game that excited me. First, to make this game capable of running in most systems, the developer had decided to make it a non-DX10 game (hope they stick with their promise since I’m kinda reluctant to upgarde any part of my current setup). Next, although right now only 2 out of 5 classes have been unveiled (Barbarian & Witch Doctor), it also been said that the player will be able to choose either to opt for male or female gender for their character. Kinda cool to me because I always wonder how the female character of Necromancer would look like. Head on to their official site, Blizzard.com for more info and although I do wonder how they will develop the storyline since all the prime evils were dead, I still can’t wait for the game to come out. I do hope this time, the archangel Tyrael, will have a lot more involvement in the game.

Yesterday mark another release day of one of my favorite Linux distro (Fedora); Fedora 8 codenamed Werewolf ( what a codename ). Among notable features in this release were:

• Features a 2.6.23 based kernel.
• GNOME 2.20
• KDE 3.5.8 (KDE Live and regular DVD) while the KDE 4 (Beta) Development Environment is available in the repository.
• The implementation of PulseAudio sound daemon.
• Codec Buddy (a.k.a codeina).
• A new look and feel (the “Infinity” desktop art is cool..changes color to reflect outdoor conditions).
• Nodoka, a fresh new GNOME theme created specially for Fedora
• Compiz Fusion installed by default.
• Open-source Java integration through the IcedTea project.
• Improved laptop support.
• Remote virtualization management.
• Improved network management
• Many other improvements.

Shijō Saikyō no Deshi Kenichi (roughly translated “History’s Strongest Disciple Kenichi”) is a manga by Syun Matsuena. The story is focused on Kenichi Shirahama, an average 15-year-old weakling, whose life turns to Hell with the appearance of the naive, beautiful, and strong transfer student, Miu Fūrinji. After Kenichi witnesses Miu’s skills in martial arts, he joins the Ryōzanpaku dojo, the gathering place of those who are truly strong, which also happens to be Miu’s home. After beating a karate student in a match, he is soon targeted by all the delinquents in the school. Since then, Kenichi’s routine is divided between his hellish training with the masters of Ryōzanpaku, and his fights against the members of Ragnarok, a gang who views him as either a possible ally or an impending threat to their plans.

Honestly, the anime of this series was recommended by one of my acquaintances. By reading at Wikipedia, it seems nothing special for me (at first) but things start to get interesting when the number of episodes increase. So, I can officially admit that I’m a Kenichi’s fan now. Although the joke is not hurting much like Gintama, but it’s still hurt nonetheless. Besides, I watch this anime because of its fighting scene (during training or battle) and IMHO, that’s where this anime excel at. Wow…can’t wait for the next episode…

I don’t know the exact date and time, but a couple of minutes ago, I just realize that Fedora 7 “Moonshine” has been released. No more “Core” in their naming convention, this latest release marks some major changes that sure looks appealing to different type of Linux user (beginner, advanced, or expert). Fedora 7 features a tickless kernel, KVM virtualization, Liberation fonts, and the capability to mix your own Fedora distribution with ease (from what I understand, it something that let the users to customize their Fedora 7 to contains only a set of package they desire and best of all share it with others). I didn’t install and test it yet, so it’s quite unfair to write any further. Talking about their official site, it had been revamped to accompany the new release. I really like their tag line “Reach Higher” because it describe their intention to become much better than ever…hopefully Fedora 7 can live up to it.
